robgrooveMAG Beta 2 incoming!!!

On the 24th  of this month (August) the new MAG beta client will be freely available on the PlayStation store for all to download (Probably available on the 25th in EU) which will allow everyone who owns MAG to be a part of the next phase in the EPIC game only available on the PS3. The download will be available to everyone but only the people with the MAG disc in their PS3 will be able to play in the beta. Don’t worry if you play MAG there will still be lots of players in the original game as the number of new MAG beta players will be capped so if you get a message saying the beta is full you’ll just have to try a little later.

The beta will only be running for four hours twice a day Monday to Friday.

There’s about to be a HUGE! amount of new weapons and gameplay coming to MAG as a result of this beta phase and I personally just can’t wait to check it out. Also you might want to hold onto your MAG beta client as it will be used again in the future to test the next beta after this one  which I think is a very cool way for a game developer to let the user base just pop in and have a look at features they’re currently working on. (Nice one Zipper ;)

For those of you who own a PS3 and enjoy shooters but do not yet have MAG you need to go out and get it. I believe MAG is a game

that’s just gonna keep on having new content added as time goes on and as I have platinum’d the game already I still really enjoy playing. Also with the Clan wars coming to MAG soon we can see once again that its a game which just keeps on growing.

Oh and how could i forget, MAG will have PS3 Move support (YES!!!)

For more information on the upcoming additions and information check out these links

Don’t own MAG yet?  No problem get it delivered for the best price on the net

robgrooveTopGun on PSN review

First off I have to say it was seriously annoying to not find TOPGUN available on the EU or UK PlayStation store last week in the store update. So I had to jump on my USA account and dig into the funds I was saving to buy another years subscription to Qore. For those of you who don’t know, it’s not exactly an easy process making a 2nd account in a foreign country and then getting money added to that account but thanks to a trust worthy friend who I’ve never met in real life but known for 4 years it is possible (Thanks EvilBanana)… Anyways on with the review.

I actually thought TOPGUN on the PSN was going to be a little better than it is to tell you the truth so please don’t stop reading through all my complaint’s. Keep reading through to the bottom for my full opinion.

TOPGUN PSN Multiplayer

The main reason I bought TOPGUN is to play with all my friends, so the multiplayer aspect of the game (as with every game I buy these days) is always very important and while it is possible to get online with friends and communicate it can sometimes be frustrating and annoying. The mic’s in online battles sound WAY! too loud and distorted you have to turn your headsets down quite a lot and sometimes makes you just want to turn your mic off completely. Not cool if you’re trying to enjoy some online fun with friends at all.

Another problem with this title is the multiplayer lobby screen. If one of your friends is hosting an online ranked game sometimes when you try to join the game hosted by your friend it doesn’t show the host names so you have to join every game to find the one your friend is in. There always seems to be a problem for some people trying to join when there’s 4 or 5 of you never mind 16. I also think in at least team deathmatch there should be some way for you to team up with your friends with a party like system  and go against other teams, this would make a huge improvement to this game.

With all that out the way when you actually get online with a few friends its quite a lot of fun i just wish more people would play online. The most people I’ve seen in 1 game is 6 and with this being a 16 player title something tells me there is a problem here. I think this game could do with a little “after release support”  in the shape of a few patches and this could be a classic PSN game in years to come.

TOPGUN PSN Single player

The single player portion of the game is actually pretty good once you get past the cheesy recreated lines trying to make it sound like the movie. It’s slightly annoying to me to hear classic lines from the movie get slightly changed to replace the occasional swear word and when the voice actor’s (not from the original movie) get the line a little wrong. I’ve seen the movie many times and know the lines pretty much off by heart so to hear them being done in this very cheesy way is something I do not like. also the lack of movie cut scenes makes the game feel like a big part of it is missing and they also missed out the classic moment where Maverik and Goose are flying inverted with a Mig keeping foreign relations…. you giving them the bird…. ya know the fingler, oh I’m sorry i hate it when it does that. Details like that is what could have made this title just that much better. Me and a friend (Corleone26) decided to take matters into our own hands and recreate the scene our selves in multiplayer.  (below)

One of the other iconic scenes from the movie did make it into the game though. Your character (Maverik) requests a fly by at the end of one of the missions and then proceeds to buzz the tower but I thought this cut scene could have been pulled off with a little more car as you can hardly see the plane fly by the tower and the scene is over before you know it.

All that aside

The single player campaign does give you a satisfying experience and can become a bit of a challenge towards the end. I think the $14.99 price tag is a little too much for this game and think a $9.99 would more suit the game (about £7.99) but all that said i have enjoy’d this title and still continue to. If you don’t have any new games to play and you like me are waiting for the onslaught of amazing triple A titles coming our way towards the Christmas season and you want a cheap online game, Get TOPGUN from the PlayStation store. I know I’ve pointed out all it’s flaws through out this post and that’s because this game could be so much more but as it is it’s not bad at all and to be honest i prefer it to the HAWX2 demo as the plane it’s self feels like it’s got better handling on TOPGUN which is pretty impressive when you look at the difference in pricesand while HAWX2 has better graphics and probably a lot more misson’s I think I would be happy to stick with TOPGUN and miss out on HAWX2 for now.

TOPGUN was supposed to be release in the UK and EU on August 18th, Maybe it will be released on the 25th…..
