Finally!
We’ve been patiently waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to be released for half a decade now and while dribs and drabs have been fed to us from the official website gran-turismo.com, most of the news (should you choose to search for it) came from GTPlanet.net. At GamesCom 2010 GTPlanet was there in person to make sure the world got a look at every detail Polyphony Digital cared to release on the upcoming and highly anticipated title by securing an invitation into a private showing of the game by none other than the man him self Yamauchi san. This Private showing shared a lot of information and images giving us a better idea of how the finished game will look and feel.
I’am gonna start with the 2 most interesting images.
First up is this image showing Stage 1 of the GT Auto section of the game where you’ll be able to upgrade your car. This looks like the car upgrade we’re used to in Gran Turismo so no big surprises here but it’s nice to finally confirm the system for upgrades.
Now this picture (below) is what really interests me. This is what the “My Lounge” screen looks like. This is where you’ll be able to race with your friends privately. This I think will be where I’ll be spending a lot of time, Hanging out with friends (up to 32 people in the lounge with 16 people in a race at one time) talking about our day and all the normal stuff we banter on about. The “My Lounge” is the place where only people on your friends list can join and either watch races or race themselves while chatting via text or mic. Sounds like a great place to hang out maybe making the PS3′s video chat rooms redundant.
In the picture below notice the player list on the right, the live video feed from the current race in the middle and the message board in the bottom left.
There are a ton of new 18 mega pixel pic’s to check out at GTPlanet.net and if you haven’t already i seriously recommend you slide over there and check them out but for this blog something else got my attention.
After GamesCom it seemed Polyphony digital had a few updates to show on their website. One of which was the “Racing at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring” video ‘s which come in 3 parts and includes Kazunori Yamauchi sharing his thought’s and stories of leaving the developer world for a moment and actually stepping into a race car on the “Green Hell” or as most of us know it the Nürburgring. It’s very interesting see Yamauchi san talk about his experiences in the 24 hour race and how he’s added the essence of it into Gran Turismo 5.
Check it out for yourselves, it’s great to see what its actually like. The video comes in 3 parts.
Racing at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
the 3 parts to the video are around the 13 minute mark so you’re looking at a little over 40 mins of video so grab yourself a cuppa and chillax for a bit while you watch thie.
(NOTE: to view part 2 and then 3 notice the next button is top left and previous is top right)
