All thanks to GeoHot, the dude behind the iPhone jailbreak who laid the ground work and opened the door to the PS3 for other hackers to come in and make them selves at home. Sony did try to combat this with the firmware 3.21 which stopped older PHAT PS3's from being able to install "OtherOS" aka Linux. GeoHot did apologise to the PlayStation community for causing this via his blog and then went on to declare war on Sony saying "I never intended to touch , but if that’s how you want to play…" (which is no longer online as he is in legal trouble with Sony). I'm sure there are a fair number of PS3 gamers in the world who have already jumped at the chance to hack their PS3's in the hope they can either cheat or play pirated games but [...]

A few PS3 owners who have not updated to 3.21 to keep the option of having Linux on their PS3's have been using a Proxy hack to get their 3.15 PS3's online (myself included) But it looks like Sony have pulled the plug on that and managed to cancel the Proxy hack from allowing PS3's running system firmware 3.15 and before from connecting to the internet. So while GeoHot (aka the iphone / PS3 hacker) sorts his taxes out, we have to wait a little longer for the G man to release the custom firmware. I get the feeling he's giving sony a chance to rectify the problem before releasing it to the masses. The War continues............
