GT4 still looks great.
I recently decided to invest in a rare backwards compatible PS3 so i could be one of the few with a pre-3.25 update playstation 3 and thought i might aswell make it a rare PS3 while im at it. So now i can play Gran Turismo 4, 3, 2, or what ever game i like while im waiting for GT5 to be released. So with my New PS3 hooked up to my 32 inch flatscreen with a HDMI cable i have only just realized how great the Graphics are.
GT4 was released in 2005 on the playstation 2 and i don’t know about you but i can’t ever remember HD TV’s being around at all. Although im sure the technology was available, it wasn’t yet mainstream and affordable. But even though HD TV wasn’t common place it seems Polyphony Digital went all out to create GT4 to look great in todays standards (HD).

While i was playing GT4 i thought the PS2 graphics on my HD PS3 arent that far from GT5 Prologue and i can’t help but think Polyphony made a game way ahead of its time. 5 Years after the release of GT4 and now technology has come such a long way in such a short while, the game still looks outstanding which brings me to believe not only is GT5 going to be absolutely amazing but it will still look great in 5, maybe even 10 years from now when we’re playing videogames on the screens of our bedroom wallpaper in 3D lol.
What’s to come?

The word on the street says GT5 will include 3D techology and head tracking thanks to the PS3 Eye which have not been seen anywhere else in the gaming world to date. I’m sure there will be a huge ammount of supprises instore for us when GT5 finally drops and as with GT4 looking great on the next generation of TV’s from when it was released, it leads me to believe in Polyphony Digital, to give us a game which will last for years and years and completely blow us all away.
Online.

My only worry at the moment is will PD pull through with the online side of the game. Having never made an online playable game before appart from GT5 Prologue (which doesn’t have the best online techonlogy ive ever seen by a long shot) i hope they don’t mess this VERY! important part of the game. Online play can make or break a game for me, One of the most fun online racers ive played has to be Burnout Paradise. This game has SO much to do online with your friends it almost never ended. It wasn’t just all about racing, you could simply just hang out with your friends in P city for hours and either just explore, mess around, find cool jumps, or do some of the 100′s of little missions. If you have played Burnout Paradise online you will know exactly what im talking about. While the online part of Paradise city can not be applied to GT5′s online side of the game, i think it is a great bench mark many other game developers should think about when making the online side of their games. I trust and believe in Polyphony Digital and GT5 and look forward to what they produce.
