BlurTheGame
Gaming (i thought) seemed to be in a bit of a lull at the moment, with lot’s of MASSIVE! titles being released at the end of the year it kinda feel’s like the industry is holding back ready to unload their full might on the run up to Christmas. The run up starts in mid September with the release of Test Drive Unlimited 2 and will be one of the best games of 2010 and should make the next 2 months wait for Gran Turismo 5 fly by. Then of course there’s the release of the motion
controller, Sport’s champions, SOCOM 4 and Little Big Planet 2 to name a few.
So with all that in the not too distant future we’re faced with the question.
Q: What do we play now?
A: Blur
When this game originally released it was over shadowed with the release of Split Second. Both blur and split second were released around the same time but split second was the first one of the 2 to have a demo available from the PS store and it sucked monkey balls. Split second might be cool for young kids i feel it’s just a terrible game and with blur coming out at the same time i didn’t give it my attention. Then last week the blur multiplayer demo popped up on the PS store n i thought what the hell ill check it out. I played 1 game and realized immediately i’ve missed a gem. The multiplayer demo is still on the store if you want to check it out for yourself and i recommend you do.
What is blur?
Think 3rd person shooter on wheels.
Think Mario kart on steroids.
Think Wipeout on wheels.
The single player is great and i love the integrated Facebook and twitter which allows you to share photo’s, leaderboard positions and anything in the game with your twitter of facebook accounts. It also gives your the option to challenge any of your friends to beat your best runs (or worst if you wish it’s up to you) with almost every page having a “Press L1 to share” button.

But where this game really comes into its own is in the multi player. sometimes you could be racing 3 or 4 other people and its ok or you could be put into a race with 9 other people but the real mayhem begins when you join a 20 player race. It’s great fun. At moments you have cars all around you and even jumping over you and with everyone fighting for that number 1 spot the battle can be pretty intense. Just don’t take it too seriously though, So many times ive lead the race for the first 2 laps way out in front of the pack only to realize ive just been mauled by 4 or 5 people behind me. After a bit of a crash and then another few hits from the rest of the pack i now find myself in dead last as i cross the finish line. If you let this game annoy you, you’ll most probably hate it but get online with a few friends with mic’s and you’ll have a great experience.

To be honest with you i bought this game to get me through to the release of Test Drive unlimited 2 in mid september and i felt fed up with the massive quantities of shooters out there so its a refreshing change and in all this i think i have found a real gem. I definitely see a blur 2 in the future and look forward to getting platinum on this game its simply excellent.

PSN got the 3.40 update in the early hours of Tuesday morning (for us guys in the UK) and wow what a great update it is. 3.40 has added the ability to upload photo’s and picture’s from your playstation to either picasa or facebook aswell as comment on them via the “Photo Gallery” which you should find on your XMB (Cross media bar aka the PS3 Menu) aswell as let you even upload video from your PS3 to youtube or facebook.
While the actual video editing is very simple it does let you edit out the parts you dont want and also lets you add text with a few basic effects (text effets) Now personally i will find it alot easier to edit video on my laptop but i think the reason we have this is for games which will allow us to upload our videos and share them with the world. Yes ladies and gentlemen i think this is how we will be editing uploading and sharing our Gran Turismo 5 videos with the world and i think we will see many other games grab a hold of this feature once its a success.
1 more nice feature ive noticed is the Rating system in the PS store. Once you’ve purchased (either paid or free) and item you can then rate it using a 5 star system, Nice!.
PSN on Facebook
The Playstation Network have also added an app to facebook making it possible for us to add our PSN profiles and trophy information to our Facebook profiles.
Facebook users can sign in with your PSN ID information and check out your profile and also see who from your friends have done the same AND you’ll be able to see who’s online Here http://apps.facebook.com/playstation/ and if you’d like to add this Facebook app to your Tabs section on your FB profile. Just follow this guide PlayStation-Network-Facebook-Tab-The-Tutorial
I hope you enjoy’d my quick overview of the changes made in the PS3 software update 3.40 and you should come back tomorrow as i will be blogging my views on the PSN+ and weather or not it’s worth the money.
