The Playstation “Classics HD” Wishlist

With the successful release of the God of War collection, the announcement of the Sly Cooper collection (a HD/3D update of Sucker Punch’s legendary Sly games with full trophy support) and the rumour mill working overtime about a possible Team ICO HD collection, Sony looks locked and loaded to launch a new brand – “Classics HD”.

There has been a lot of discussion since the end of E3 and the main point has been this – “What next Sony? Which games are you going to give the sparkly HD/3D treatment too next?”

The majority of game forums are filled with what you would expect – A Final Fantasy Collection. A Gran Turismo Collection. A GTA Collection – but I wasn’t satisfied with this. There were so many classics on PS1 and PS2 that I don’t think it should be just the big franchises that get the make over. I have scoured the recesses of my brain to come up with a list of forgotten legends that deserve another £25 out of our pocket, a good old HD spit-shine and haven’t been mentioned anywhere else. Here it is…

Crash Bandicoot Collection?ZOE Collection?Legacy of Kain Collection?

A Crash Bandicoot Collection
Crash Bandicoot is Playstations prodigal son. He was the unofficial Playstation mascot for 2 generations of console, having a successful career, developed by Naughty Dog (You know those guys right? Uncharted Series?) on the PS1 and an array of studios on PS2. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem capable of making the giant leap to the PS3 .
I’m sure that anybody reading this who owned an original PlayStation will have fond memories of this series. Jumping over pitfalls, collecting Wumpa Fruit, avoiding Nitro boxes and running away from giant boulders/polar bears, all with the aim of rescuing your bandicoot lady friend Tawna from the nutty professor Neo Cortex. Ah, the memories.
Now imagine this Crash craziness in glorious HD? It would be like taking a trip down memory lane on acid! All the colours of the rainbow pummelling your retinas as you try and navigate the super fun (although occasionally frustrating) islands? Yes please. Throw in 3D and I would sell the left hemisphere of my brain to see it released.

A Legacy of Kain Collection
You name it, The Legacy of Kain series has had it. Vampires, Time Travel, nasty looking swords, giant spider queens, swirly vortex gods and everything dark and spooky in between. The story line is epic, involving and completely engrosses the player, not to mention the game play and graphics that were so far ahead of the times that it was scary. Why not let Kain and his soul sucking spawn Raziel have another crack of the whip? This time in 720p. It would be huge.

A Zone of the Enders Collection
With Hideo Kojima teasing the development of Zone of the Enders 3, this looks like a sure fire bet to get a HD remastering. The 2 PS2 games (ZOE and ZOE 2: The Second Runner) received moderate success but sales weren’t anywhere near what the games deserved. Kojima blames this on “releasing the game at the wrong time” and it had to compete with other big titles. Perhaps Kojima can find a nice clear window in the release schedule of next few year and give the Enders another chance to blast around Mars and Jupiter in a Mecha? I hope so. It would sell like hot cakes in a Japan for sure.

The 3 games I have mentioned are my personal favourites, but there is an immense library of 1st rate titles on PS1 and PS2 just begging for a re-release. Dino Crisis, Beyond Good & Evil, Devil May Cry, Oddword, Driver…I could go on forever.
Also, Mr Rob Groove wanted a special mention for the Mortal Kombat series, namely MK: Deception. Apparently he had an unhealthy addiction to the puzzle and chess modes. Could the MK classics be getting a HD upper cut? With the new MK game on its way, who knows.

SOCOM II in HD

Vote it up!

Quite often i hear fellow gamers bangin on about how SOCOM II was the best game ever made and how no SOCOM has compared to it since and even though SOCOM 4 is coming out at the end of this year alot of SOCOM II fans still want it brought back in HD as they believe SOCOM 4 will just be a sell out trying to tap into some of the success COD MW2 had and who can blame them. MW2 was a massive! success outselling blockbusting movies.

I personally think SOCOM 4 will be better than most believe but what the hell, im allways up for another PSN exclusive  and think it would be interesting to bring SOCOM II back in HD  just to see what they’re all bangin on about. Zipper (creators of SOCOM) did say they might not bring S2 back as it may be one of those situations where some things are better left in the past and there’s a possibility that bringing it back in HD might destroy that memory for everyone who played the original. With that said though, there are still about 150 people still playing SOCOM II online with their PS2′s everyday which amazes me as SOCOM is now 6 years old (SOCOM II 2004) and we have since come up a generation in consoles.

Maybe there is something amazing and special about SOCOM II, maybe it can be re released in HD and still offer the same feelings for a new generation of gamers. There’s alot of talk going on in the socom forums only time will tell but while we’re waiting for this to happen you can be a part of this push and vote this up on the PSN share blog. so click on the link or picture below and place your vote.

GT4 ahead of its time

GT4 still looks great.

I recently decided to invest in a rare backwards compatible PS3 so i could be one of the few with a pre-3.25 update playstation 3 and thought i might aswell make it a rare PS3 while im at it. So now i can play Gran Turismo 4, 3, 2, or what ever game i like while im waiting for GT5 to be released. So with my New PS3 hooked up to my 32 inch flatscreen with a HDMI cable i have only just realized how great the Graphics are.

GT4 was released in 2005 on the playstation 2 and i don’t know about you but i can’t ever remember HD TV’s being around at all. Although im sure the technology was available, it wasn’t yet mainstream and affordable. But even though HD TV wasn’t common place it seems Polyphony Digital went all out to create GT4 to look great in todays standards (HD).

While i was playing GT4   i thought the PS2 graphics on my HD PS3 arent that far from GT5 Prologue and i can’t help but think Polyphony made a game way ahead of its time. 5 Years after the release of GT4 and now technology has come such a long way in such a short while, the game still looks outstanding which brings me to believe not only is GT5 going to be absolutely amazing but it will still look great in 5, maybe even 10 years from now when we’re playing videogames on the  screens of our bedroom wallpaper in 3D lol.

What’s to come?

The word on the street says GT5 will include 3D techology and head tracking thanks to the PS3 Eye which have not been seen anywhere else in the gaming world to date. I’m sure there will be a huge ammount of supprises instore for us when GT5 finally drops and as with GT4 looking great on the next generation of TV’s from when it was released, it leads me to believe in Polyphony Digital, to give us a game which will last for years and years and completely blow us all away.

Online.

My only worry at the moment is will PD pull through with the online side of the game. Having never made an online playable game before appart from GT5 Prologue (which doesn’t have the best online techonlogy ive ever seen by a long shot) i hope they don’t mess this VERY! important part of the game. Online play can make or break a game for me, One of the most fun online racers ive played has to be Burnout Paradise. This game has SO much to do online with your friends it almost never ended. It wasn’t just all about racing, you could simply just hang out with your friends in P city for hours and either just explore, mess around, find cool jumps, or do some of the 100′s of little missions. If you have played Burnout Paradise online you will know exactly what im talking about. While the online part of Paradise city can not be applied to GT5′s online side of the game, i think it is a great bench mark many other game developers should think about when making the online side of their games. I trust and believe in Polyphony Digital and GT5 and look forward to what they produce.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

2009 was the year Playstation 3 came into its own with the release of the PS3 Slim and PSP Go and awesome add-on content for Burnout Paradise, we finally saw the DLC released for sloppy slant 6′s Socom Confrontation, Tekkan 6, The new and inavitive PS3 Eye Pet, The game that won Game Of The Year Uncharted 2 which made all xboxers envious, Gran Turismo Academy giving an american and a canadian a free all expenses paid VIP trip to the indy 500 in 2010 and 1 lucky gamer an actual seat in the Nissan & Playstation car in the GT Championship, Also the Best Indipendent Game of the Year Flower.
(There are Heaps more  games that should get a mention but ive decided to cut it there)
Oh and lets not forget that almost 1 million Xboxers lost the ability t play online due to chipping their consoles lol.

The Gran Turismo 5 Main Menu2010 is going to be the BEST year yet for Playstation3.
Why???    Its Only The Year Gran Turismo 5 Is Going To Be Released! From what i have gathered so far GT5 will come on 3 Blu Ray discs (thats 150GB’s worth of BluRay disc space) with over 1000 cars and 70 different track variations including the Official WRC &  NASCAR and head tracking thanks to the Playstation Eye with the added ability to upload your replays straight to youtube from the game in HD without hassle.

Why??? Did someone say Final Fantasy XIII and the PS3 exclusive (not on Xbox) Final Fantasy XIV Online!! in March

Why??? Rumour has it tht we will also see the NEW Playstation Motion controller giving us a completely NEW way of playing games.

Why??? God Of War III is coming out.

Also theres a possibility we will have HD 3D movies and games  possibly in 2010.

Personally all i want is Gran Turimo 5, Ill be happy as a gamer  with a Platinum Trophy when it comes out. We’ve been waiting for 5 years for this release and we’re almost there just a few more months to go.

But with all that aside i hope to make this blog have the best year RobGroove.com has ever had in the last 5 years of its  exsistence. i plan on bringing you playstation news when it happens (hopefully before many other sites) and interesting technology info on anything and everything i find to be awesome in 2010.
So please help me reach the masses by telling your friends and tweeting my posts or posting them on sites like myface and spacebook lol.

Also if some of you have something you wish to share with the world you can register on this site and get intouch with me n i can let you to post draft blogs allowing me to edit and publish your blogs with your name on it. Thats right RobGroove.com wants YOU!!.
