Smoking is bad for your PS3

We all know smoking is bad for our health and if you smoke yourself you should quit cause it will kill you. But what’s more important is if you smoke around your PS3 it will kill that too (OH NO!)

Ive had my PS3 for about 4 years now and while I’m currently using my PS3 Slim (purchased last year) my original PS3 is still work and this is while certain friends i know have gone through 2 or 3 PS3′s and one of them has even gone through 6 of them. So why does this happen to some people more than others? Well, Don’t you think it’s a coincidence that the only people I know who have had either the Yellow Light Of Death or just straight up had their PS3′s conk out on them ALL! smoke while playing PS3.

I have to admit my original PS3 did start to over heat a little due to dust getting sucked in through the cooling fan and all it required was me to vacuum all the PS3 vents about once a month and that kept it from getting too hot where the loud fan would kick in. So we know the PS3 gets pretty hot and a high powered fan is needed to stop it from over heating, but think of what damage your doing to it if your cigarette or weed smoke (weed smoke is the worst as it clogs things up a lot more) all that nicotine and smoke gets sucked into your PS3 and clings on to it’s insides causing it to heat up and eventually it will heat up to much and cause serious damage.

I guess if your PS3′s warranty has run out and if you’re up to it, you might be able to open it up, clean it and replace the broken parts but at the end of the day you just shouldn’t smoke around your PS3.

Want to quit smoking? Here’s my advice.

I used to smoke and I managed to give up a few years ago. One of the things that helped me get though it was nicotine chewing gum. It gave me a nicotine supply without smoking and also made me realise how NASTY! nicotine is. If you chew the gum too much it makes you throw up but you need nicotine if your used to smoking cause you’re addicted to it. Try it.

Also while I was in the process of quitting, about 3 or 4 months in. someone gave me some helpfull advice. When you feel your self reaching for that cigarette, just think to your self “is it really worth giving up all those months of quitting for a few minutes of enjoyment” I think you will find the answer is no.

Quit smoking smokers it’s bad for your health and more importantly your PlayStation 3.

MAG Beta 2 incoming!!!

On the 24th  of this month (August) the new MAG beta client will be freely available on the PlayStation store for all to download (Probably available on the 25th in EU) which will allow everyone who owns MAG to be a part of the next phase in the EPIC game only available on the PS3. The download will be available to everyone but only the people with the MAG disc in their PS3 will be able to play in the beta. Don’t worry if you play MAG there will still be lots of players in the original game as the number of new MAG beta players will be capped so if you get a message saying the beta is full you’ll just have to try a little later.

The beta will only be running for four hours twice a day Monday to Friday.

There’s about to be a HUGE! amount of new weapons and gameplay coming to MAG as a result of this beta phase and I personally just can’t wait to check it out. Also you might want to hold onto your MAG beta client as it will be used again in the future to test the next beta after this one  which I think is a very cool way for a game developer to let the user base just pop in and have a look at features they’re currently working on. (Nice one Zipper ;)

For those of you who own a PS3 and enjoy shooters but do not yet have MAG you need to go out and get it. I believe MAG is a game

that’s just gonna keep on having new content added as time goes on and as I have platinum’d the game already I still really enjoy playing. Also with the Clan wars coming to MAG soon we can see once again that its a game which just keeps on growing.

Oh and how could i forget, MAG will have PS3 Move support (YES!!!)

For more information on the upcoming additions and information check out these links

PSP Android Phone

According to Engadget “via a trusted source”  Sony Ericsson  are working on a gaming phone in collaboration with Playstation and is expected to use Google’s Android 3.0.  This is what I’ve been waiting for ;) . I needed a new phone a few weeks ago so i decided to shell out £400 for a HTC Desire with the idea of keeping it in perfect condition to sell and get my money back allowing me to buy a PSP phone whenever it gets released. Now my plan is coming together it seems. The Engadget blog say’s it could possibly be released as early as October but to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if we had to wait until late 2011.

The Engadget blog has a lot of details about the hardware of the device but what im hoping for from the software / OS is the ability to chat with friends on the playstation network using both mic and text and it would be very cool if we could also play against PS3 players on select games too. By far the most important thing I’d like to see the phone do though is ability to unlock trophies during gameplay.

Currently on my HTC Desire running Android 2.2 i have a couple of PSN App’s which allow me to keep tabs on what my friends are playing while I’am at work or on the move  as well as show people my PSN profile. While this is very cool to have. I still can’t message my friends on the PSN from my phone but i guess it will have to do for now.

Here’s a little snapshot of the PSN apps i use right now on my HTC Desire running Android 2.2 showing my friends list app on the left and my profile info app on the right.

This is my HTC Desire displaying my friends list full screen. When you touch any of your friends profiles from this page you can look through their entire trophy collection. This is as close as i can get to owning a Playstation Phone at the moment and i would love nothing more than to have an actual Playstation Phone, C’mon Sony make it happen please!

If you’d like to own a HTC Desire phone you can buy them Here if you’re in the USA and Here if you’re in the UK

Review – Earthworm Jim HD

Have you ever experienced that disappointing feeling when you meet an old friend for the 1st time in years and realise he/she has completely changed? For example – Your jobless friend Zed, who wouldn’t be seen dead in anything but a AC/DC t-shirt & used to eat dog food to win a bet, is now called Ted and sells car insurance in a suit? You may have experienced this feeling while playing video game remakes in the past but there is one thing to be sure of – you will NEVER experience that disappointment with Earth worm Jim HD.

EWJ

Firstly, I would like to thanks Gamesloft for making this release possible. I had a uncomfortable man-to-worm crush on Jim for many years and thought that weird part of my life was over. Unfortunately I have fallen in love with the little megadrile and his super-suit all over again.

The game feels exactly how it did all those years ago! Jim still screams “Groovy” over and over again, he still launches unsuspecting cows into orbit using fridges(WTF?) and its still as hard as ever (thanks to an “Original Difficulty” mode!) to complete. Thanks to the graphics update, this platform adventure has withstood the test of time. Its still tough and its still funny.

After playing this game for half of my childhood on the Sega Mega Drive, the controls did feel a little bit odd. I was hammering away at where the A button used to be, only to find that the buttons didn’t exist. Just remind yourself every so often that you are holding a dualshock3 and not your Mega Drive controller every so often and you should be safe.

I was pretty excited when I discovered that the game has Multi-player but if I’m honest, the game didn’t need it. Its still fun, and adds a little competition to the proceedings but having played it a few times, I still prefer shooting black birds and crazy eyed dogs on my own.

This is a pretty damn good port. Everything looks fantastic, but the original game still shines through. The Sound effects still sound like they are being pumped out of a 16-bit console but that just adds to the unusual time traveling sensation.

If you ever played this on the Mega Drive, then this PSN download is a must buy. It will bring back the early 90′s like an acid flash-back. For a small fee of £7.99 you can get your wormmy mits on that crazy blaster and go and rescue the princess all over again. This time in HD too.

Unfortunately, If you didn’t play this back in the 90′s there is probably not much waiting to be discovered. Its nostalgia that drives this title and there are more recent platformers that deserve your attention more than Earthworm Jim HD (Braid anyone?).

Still, if you fancy a challenge, one of the trophies carries on the insane spirit of the original title -

Gold – “Earthworm Never Dies” – Clear Single Player mode in Original difficulty in one sitting without losing a life.

Anyone up to it? Good luck!

JIM
